Looking to install 2 new Batteries in my truck, I have been told interstate is the way to go, what do you guys think!.....Another question what is the easiest way to find out if my 99 powerstroke diesel is early or later model of 99, I have been told that the early and late 99 have different specs?
There are actually only a couple of companies in the U.S. that make all of the automotive batteries sold. There really isn't a whole lot of difference between the ones sold by Interstate and your local Wal-Mart. I buy them from either my local Bumper to Bumper or Farm & Fleet store.
That being said, I always look for the one with the best cranking amp and reserve capacity ratings. You'll find that the best ones from anyone are rated pretty close.
I don't know aout the deep cycle Optimas, that's what I have in my boat, but I run two red tops for a cool 1750 c.c.a. Never had a problem running anything, and it has never not started. Just my 2 cents....
Oppy how do you like that Newholland? I have a 863 Bobcat and I am really tired of poor service, etc., etc. Just curious. Sure wish Massey would come out with one.
Well, if you had asked me last week, I woulda said I love it, but this week the radiator crapped out and I have to have it recored to the tune of 400 bucks!
Actually, though, I really like it. It's not new and shiny, but it runs pretty good and I have never had a problem doing landscaping stuff or moving horse manure around
It also has great weight capacity in a small footprint. The older NHs were like that - better weight capacity than Bobcat in a smaller package. That has changed in the last few years though. NH has really increased the size and Bobcats have gotten a little smaller.
A couple things I don't like are the NH attachment mount, which noone uses anymore, and the lack of auxillary hydraulics.
If I had unlimited funds (riiight) and I wanted to buy a brand new one, I think I'd get a Bobcat. The new Deeres came out with a whole lotta fanfare, but I hardly ever see them around.
Thanks for the info Oppy. Definately not interested in shiny or new. That higher weight capability and small footprint was almost a selling point a wek ago. That mounting point problem wasn't mentioned though. Imo, Deere made a good product five years ago. I haven't seen any being used around here either. Oh well, guess I better start getting along better with the Bobcat rep. No complaints about performance, just real unhappy with the service aspect. Thanks again.
Deeres were made by NH up until a couple years ago - same machine with different decals. The new ones actually have Deere engines, which I think is a plus. They just haven't seemed to take off here.
The mount issue isn't really that big a deal. You can either convert to the "universal" (Bobcat) mount or just look for attachments with the NH mount. I have only used the bucket with my 553, but it would be nice to have a set of forks. Everybody converted to the Bobcat mount about several years ago.
I think the 555 had aux. hydraulics if you need to use an auger or some other attachment. Also, the 785 (I think that's the right #) has a higher weight capacity and hydraulics. If I was going to buy another older machine, I'd definitely get one of them.
As far as service goes, I have always done my own maintenance and repairs (another nice bonus with an "older" machine). It's actually pretty easy on the 553.
There are several I would never consider, though: Mustang, Owatonna and anything Japanese.
Hell, I'm sold. Didn't know that about Nh and Deere. My dad has been a Deere man all his life until a few years ago. Everything went to Massey after that. Anyway, thanks for all the info. Oh, I wouldn't consider anything japanese either. Brother came over the other night in his wifes' dodge....mom didn't cook her best that night.
