The radio was easy, there has been one in my Grandpa's garage for years, ever since my Mom wrapped his Fairlane around a fire hydrant! That radio, a couple of hub caps and fond memories of the go-cart he made me with the steering wheel, are all that are left of it!
I kinda doubt it was dealer installed when you consider how old the antenna is in relation to the radio and where the antenna is mounted. The outer ***** are from another (newer) passenger car radio.
The correct antenna is the same as used on 1961/64 Galaxies and mounts on the right cowl panel. There's a hole within the cowl to route the antenna's lead wire thru, there is none on the left cowl panel.
Old Crow,Custom Autosound has just what I need, for half of the price of the one (back ordered indefinetly) I could never get anyway from LMC. Thanks for the tips fellas. I hope to post pictures soon of this truck, I have a 1962 short bed unibody, 89 Lariet and a 95 F-150, I guess I turned out to be a ford man by circumstance.
Do I need to start a new thread for info on installing rack and pinion on the 62?
Good one, but ya won't freeze your hands if you always have a hot cup of coffee when you're on the go? Reminds me, I've got to rig up a coffee cup holder...
Don't be too hard on the guy, he called it a "stepside"? Maybe a early '65 or a grille change out? It doesn't have gold valve covers like mine?
Anyway, I didn't really post this to pick it apart, just to share the pics with those who may not have seen one before.
The grille has been replaced with one from a 1964 Custom Cab. You can see where the reduntant parking lamps were that were removed.
By the VIN, this is a 1965 M250 Flareside. The FE engine was there originally, but since it's painted blue, it may have been swapped at some point, because...
The preheat tube on the dry type aircleaner (1965/66's came with oil baths) wasn't used until 1968, the left valve cover has the remains of an emissions decal glued to it.
The valve covers with lettering were introduced in 1967, 1965/66's were plain.
I can't read what the covers say, it's either Powered by Ford (1967/71 passenger cars / 1967/76 F100/350) or Mercury (1966/67 390/410/428 passenger cars).
