after the new head gaskets

here is my question. after the new head gaskets are put on what are the chances of them blowing out again? just as good as before or have they upgraded so it wont happen again. info on this would be nice as i'm thinking of buying a 2005 6L power stoke that have had them done

thanks guys

It depends on if the heads are flat and you reinstall with properly torqued studs instead of the stock bolts.

head gaskets hardly ever go bad. the issue is with tty bolts streching. really no good way to give odds on that.

the head gaskets were replaced on warranty. so im sure they were all torqued right and head was flat. do you think that ford would of up graded the replacement parts so there is less chance of it happening agian or just untill it is off warranty and not their prob any more.

You can only hope they did a good job. Ford spec for flatness is now 0.004" now, I believe, which is NOT flat.

the issue is not enugh head bolts. it has little to do with the parts quality. this has been addressed in the new 6.7

More head bolts would have definitely helped. The new 6.7L has more. With the 6.4L they helped reduce issues by going with a larger head bolt, but still the same number.

edit: I read cheezit's post wrong, thought he was saying headbolt count was not the problem, but upon re-reading we are saying the same thing.

so what you are saying is im still taking my chances with it even if it had gaskets or not. and how about the turbo what is the reliability of them he had a issue of it not working but the dealer got it to work and had to replace a exhaust pipe after the tubo and it works now

thanks for all your info

as long as you dont drive the egts and dont have oil supply issue the turbos for the most part seem to be doing faily well.
so far as keeping the heads on the engine. some trucks have issues some do not. theres alot going on there. things like egr operation, silica fallout, oil coolers becoming restricted, poor maintance, overworked etc. to account for.

If the truck is local, you can pretty easily look at the head bolts and see if they are stock or if its got studs. obviously stock will have a normal bolt head, where the studs will have a stud with a nut on them.
