so i posted one of these before about how i seized my motor by gettin water in carb. well i got her all tore down now and i still cant get the motor to turn over by hand and when i pulled my heads there was alot of water in the cylinders and a couple of the cylinders mainly one had antifreeze in them. the one was absolutly full because the piston was down. so my question is..well questions are....how in the world do i get in disconnected from the torque converter to pull the motor... and what would cause my cylinders to fill with coolant?
The antifreeze probably got in when you broke the head gasket seal, not uncommon. You will just have to pull the converter with the engine, it will slide out.
so your saying that if i just disconnect the tranny from the motor the torque converter will pull off of the tranny or how will that work? is that bad for the tranny or torque converter?
It's been about 15 years since I pulled the 351M in my '81 Bronco, but I seem to recall it having an inspection plate that allowed me to remove the ring gear to torque converter nuts. The torque converter stayed on the transmission input shaft.
See if your's doesn't have a flat plate bolted to the bottom of the transmission bell housing. As you turn the engine (bump it with the starter) you'll see the TC bolts extending through the ring gear. There may also be a torque converter drain plug. Don't remove that one unless you're ready to catch some transmission fluid.
The plate I'm talking about will catch the ring gear with or without the torque converter if you try to pull the engine without removing it first.
i understand about the inspection plate and whatnot as i have pulled this motor before. but the problem is the fact that the motor is seized and does not turn therefore i cant get to the bolts. only one
Can you get the pan off of it? if so You might have one bent rod which can allow a piston to drop engough (drops futher than normal due to the rod being shorter)so that the crank counterweight hits it and stops any futher rotation of the crank.
If you can get the pan off maybe you can remove the offending rod/piston and turn the engine over.
Its no big deal to replace one rod/piston.
ya know i dont really think that i can do that. i tried to pull the pan to do the gasket one time and it wasnt very sucessful and ended up pulling the motor to do all my gaskets. there is a cross member right underneath the pan and the exhaust runs in the way.

Yes the TC will come out with the engine & it won't hurt a thing. Just keep the trans jacked up with the engine & it will slide right out.
If you have to, pull the tranny with it if you cant get all the torque converter bolts out. It will allow you to pull the oil pan if your crossmember is hindering that. I agree that a bent connecting rod is whats hindering you
yeah sorry i havent filled you all in on how this is going. well i got my motor pulled i just pulled the tq with the motor then put it back after i removed the bent connecting rod and broken piston as i was able to spin the motor yay. so now i am in the process of buying a new rod and a rebuild kit. does anyone how much TMI sells .040 over rebuild kits?
