My 94 f150 with a M5OD-R2 tranny acts up when I start the truck. I'm pretty sure the throw out bearing is getting tight. Here's what happens:
I start the truck in neutral with the clutch down, and I can't get it to take any gear. Then I turn it off, find a gear, and restart. It will then shift fine.
There is a rubber plug window (2"X3") where the throw out bearing can be viewed without dropping tranny. Any suggestions on how to clean and grease it without dropping the tranny and replacing?
I looked at that, but that's not an issue. The clutch operates smoothly and disengages about halfway. Is the throw-out bearing a sealed bearing, or can I spray some cleaner under the plastic shroud followed by spray grease?
The bearing should be sealed. If it was bad I would think you would hear it when you depress the clutch pedal.
What you describe would seem more like the pressure plate is not being withdrawn enough, possibly due to worn pedal linkage or air in the hydraulic system or a bad master cylinder. Could also be that the clutch plate is dragging even though the pressure plate is fully withdrawn..
