Replacing brake booster

I am getting ready to change out the brake booster on our 03 expedition. It developed the hissing noise by the brake pedal. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on changing these out. I was also wondering if when removing the master cylinder, if you need to remove the brake lines or if they can move enough to pull the booster out. Thanks.

Leave the brake lines connected but unbolt the master cylinder from the booster and pull it out of the way.

Byf619, I'm going to replace the brake booster on my 05 expedition and would like to hear about your booster replacement experience. Could you post a how to? Thanks.

Its was fairly simple. I would reccomend having several extensions and a socket joint. This will really help when removing the screws in the firewall from inside the car. The first thing I did was remove the clip tthe attaches the brake pedal to the booster. I then removed all of the screws under the dash that hold the booster. I believe is four screws. Once those screws are out, the booster will be loose. From the engine bay, you will be able to move the booster. In order to remove the booster, remove the two screws from the master cylinder. Once the screws are removed, slide the brake master cylinder from the brake booster. You will need to move the master cylinder back with youur hands in order to pull out the booster. The brake lines will give you tension but its ok to push them back. Remove the black hose going to the booster and then pull the booster out. Once you remove the booster, put the new one on in the reverse order. It could seem intimidating but as long as you take your time you should be fine. Hope this helps.

The whole replacement took about 45 minutes to an hour. Let me know if you have any other questions.
