Exchanging brake booster rod?

I'm thinking of changing my clinkage for my brakes and was wondering if anyone knows how to or if it is possible to remove the brake booster rod with out damaging the diaphram so I can either weld onto it or thread it?
I should mention that it it is out of a 84 Capri/mustng.

the pedal side usually is threaded to support easy replacement and adjustment

the master side (on the universals) has (all of mine) an adjustable/replaceable pin.. ,the replaceable cause the drum vs disk requires a different volume of fluid which changes the piston size (length)

The pedal side on this one has a round hole to receive a bolt/pin from the actual pedal linkage but with this I have an extra moveable connection(because of the required extra length need on the 55) which is what I'm trying to get rid of. I'm thinking that this booster is not adjustable being OEM for the 84 Capri/Mustang.

On my 53 I am using a booster from a 88 Bronco II. It also had the round hole in the end of the rod. I cut this off and threaded the end of the rod and used a long nut to connect to the pedal linkage.

Thanks Jeff, pic shows what I want to do.
Did you remove the rod when you threaded it or just do it on the booster and if so how did you hold the rod to thread it?

The rod doesn't come out of the booster, I held it with vise-grips while threading it.
