Exclamation New Truck Problems.

I haven't been lurking around this forum in a while. Well actually since the demise of my 81 F100. Mostly the Dent forum since my 78 is now my DD.

I just got another styleside. Its a 83 F150 4x4 351w Auto. Its in pretty rough shape right now but I plan on fixing it up for a toy. I can get some pics when I get it home if anyone is interested. The 4wd works great but body is shot and it has some other bugs. The Po wanted $600 but a few days after I looked at it and decided against it I got a call saying he would take $300 cash for it.So now its mine.

When you start it, you have to put it in neutral and jiggle the shifter around to find the sweet spot to get it to start. What could be causing this? I was looking on Advance's site and found HREF="http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Neutral-Safety-Switch-BWD_5971500-P_401_R|GRPSESWAMS_562151725___">THIS. I was thinking it was the neutral safety switch in the side of the transmission but as long as it is shifted in P or N it shouldn't matter. So that got me to thinking it is that piece. Im thinking that maybe the piece that the shifter triggers has worn out and only works in that one little place while in neutral. Any one have any other thoughts or had to change this part before? I was also wondering if you had to take the turn signal switch out to get to it. I have thought about changing the ts switch in my 78 and could not figure out how to get it out without breaking something. Anyone dealt with this before or have any other idea of what it might be? It is very annoying to have to sit and play with it to get it to start.

Also the PO took the gas tank off because it had a hole in it so it currently has a fuel line run into a gas can in the back of the truck. I was wondering if the tank from my 81 f100 would be a direct swap. I have the bed loose and just sitting on my 81 so it would be easy pickin. Any help is greatly appreciated.
