Hey guys!
I have an 89 f-250 4x4 with a 7.5liter and a c6 tranny. I need to know if I have the one ton axles or the 3/4 ton axles. I think that the gear ratio is 4:10 but correct me if I'm wrong.
Code goes as follows: 4.10 "triangle" E8TA
"triangle" 610312-2
This serial number was on the metal tag on my front axle. I need to replace the yoke on my front differential as well as the bearing, seal and crush seal.
Thanks for your help
To tell if it came that way or not, a couple ways. If there is an 'L' in the ratio stamped on the tag, like 4L10. Also the AXLE code on the door jamb sticker will contain a letter. You can also pull the cover off and see if there is an S-shaped spring in the middle of the carrier.
To tell if it's still working is different. The clutches wear out and usually after 100k miles or so they don't have any grip left. Jack up one wheel, and with the tranny in neutral, try to turn the turn over by hand. If it spins at all it means your limited slip is worn out. This will also help you pinpoint some brake problems too, but nothing will take the place of a thorough inspection by someone who knows what they're looking for.
You shouldn't have to downshift up ANY hills without a load in that truck.
