I have a 2001 F250 4X4 V10 automatic truck that i just bought and it has a noticable lean out at the bottom of the front passenger side wheel. I jacked it up and it does have some play, but nothing terrible. It also has a bump when i hit bumps on the road. Is this ball joints? or wheel bearings? Please help me figure out what to do with this thing.

Is the play up and down or does it have play all around?

If it's just up and down I would say it's most likely ball joints, if you can move it in all directions it is likely the wheel bearing.

 

If it makes a popping noise on bumps, I'd X2 the ball joints.

How many miles? To replace the ball joints you have to tear the knuckle off, might as well replace the bearings at the same time.

 

i'll have to double check if the play is side to side, i know it is up and down, but not too bad, i can't even get it to move with the tire on, but with it off, it moves somewhat easily. Truck has right at 200,000 on it, so it is probably due for one of everything. What cost am i looking at to do bearings and ball joints?
