I just installed a Peak camera on 2000 Excursion
For 80.00 pretty good!
Tapped camera into the factory backup lamps
Another option is wire on the 7pin trailor pkgs
Trick is you need monitor to come on also and I didnt want to run wire to rear of vehicle but in hindsight it would have been quicker
Reverse wire is black with pink stripe behind kick panel on passenger side,
I am looking at doing this mod (I got a 2005 SD grill with honeycomb and 4.3" TFT auto switching monitor all for less than $100 shipped). Just looking for the camera now. Does anybody know where I can get the camera by itself without going to Ford? I really want the OEM because I like the tri-color parking assist.
I had one of the rear view mirror monitors put in and it works great. A problem exists if you have SYNC in the vehicle as the microphone is located in the mirror which will be replaced. Ford now makes a kit which relocates the microphone. That is why you need a blend of aftermarket as well as the ford parts. Total cost including install was $525.00 This included the parts from Ford which ran $75.00.
It works great and my wife really loves it. She will even drive the truck now when I need the car.
My Brother had one in his 2010 Tacoma and it is 2.5 X 2.5. The aftermarket I had put in is 2.5 X 4.2. While much smaller that the factory one in my Acura TL, they work great and still show a lot of detail. Very easy to hitch a trailer with.
I'm finishing the installation of my backup camera tomorrow PM and hope to get some pics up soon. I got a night vision camera off eBay for $16 delivered, 30' of RCA/Camera Power cable for $20 and bought a 10.2" rear-view LCD monitor with reverse sensing that clips on the mirror. It's about the same size as the existing mirror, just more square but I didn't like the look, guess I'm picky. I ended up getting a Pioneer AVH-3200DVD head unit to replace the factory radio of Amazon for about $260 (they had a 30% off sale thru July 31). This unit has a 5.8" TFT screen built in, USB, SD, A/V inputs and lots of other neat radio stuff. This keeps my truck looking close to stock, important to me, and pumps up the sound quality considerably over stock.
This radio has reverse input sense so it will automatically turn on when you go into reverse. I chose to put the camera right in the bumper, just below the spare tire hole and used a step bit to make it fit. My primary focus is the trailer hitch more than anything else.
btw... I have a new in box 10.2" rear-view mirror LCD monitor if anyone is interested. PM me.

that is what I am looking at too, I have a 7in separate monitor, with no real nice place to put it.. and the stock rearview looks small
Here is my monitor. It goes over the rear view mirror. I can't see anything out my rear window anyway. This is the upper camera, a also have a lower one. The monitor has 2 inputs.
yeh.. I am a mirror fanatic.. I couldn't stand not having the rear view the rest of the time ( not towing).. and can't stand having to switch things.. drives me crazy..
looking at installing a head unit to have the large screen and not have to fiddle with things.. add gps too.. one less thing in the way..
on recent trip we had backup monitor, gps, two phones (different charge ends), and iphone.. coffee cups... what a mess..
Sorry for the delay but I have been out of town the past week. The backup camera I had put on my f250 is made by Echo Master. Contact info as follows: www.echomaster.com ; 888-324-6678 or 949-581-5502;
model number is VM-42R. They are located in Orange County, CA.
They can give you details concerning the work around if you have SYNC installed on your vehicle.
