Sorry I should have been more clear about our situation...
Hey everyone. My brother and I are one piece away from getting the cab off... steering wheel won't budge. (yes the nut's off). Someone help before we damage something!
spray it liberally , as the metals have prolly corroded , and get a rubber mallet , and tap the wheel gently on the sides and bottom while trying carefully to turn the wheel puller to remove it . that's the best i can offer !!
The should be two fine thread 5/16" holes tapped into the steering wheel on either side of the main shaft. They might be filled with 50+ years of crud or they might not be there at all. If they aren't there it's easy enough to drill and tap them. Then use a steering wheel puller to pull the wheel off. Just a little hint, if you use a steering wheel puller insert a large bolt into the shaft and use the head to push the puller off of. This will help protect the threads on the end of the shaft.
I used the force method once and almost knocked out a front tooth when the wheel let go, I go with the puller.
Yep! I agree!
You don't want to be beating or smacking that steering wheel around if it's in any kind of shaped (if you are getting new - knock yourself out). It's old and will crack!
The puller works very well and with little effort. You can ge them on e-bay for about $7. I've used mine a number of times - good investment!
if your pulling the cab from the frame i would take the whole steering box column and all off remove 3 botls on frame pitman arm then bring the whole thing out the floor

It won't pull out through the floor if the steering wheel is still attached.
I don't think the wheel will go thru the inspection hole, but the gear box will, take it out thru the cab. You'll want the column out of the way to make removing the cab much easier anyhow. But a steering wheel puller is the ticket for wheel removal.
What about the pedals? Aren't they in the way? I just took the pitman arm off then had to leave the shop to tend to other business but it looked like the pedals would be in the way of getting the steering gear box off of the frame. Lemme guess... depress the pedal and she pops right out?
