This is a early 99 model truck and I know that this is the wrong forum, but I wanted to get you guys input too! ( I already posted in the 99-03 forum) A friend of mine recently bought a non-running 99 Powerstroke that had been sitting for over a year, it was parked because it died on the previous owner and would not restart. I put a new CPS and it fired right up. First problem fixed! Now fresh fuel, fresh oil and filter, and he drives it for two days pulling his trailer with lawn care equipment and it does great, so with no trailer he's driving out of town and he floors it, takes it up to 86-87 mph and backs out of it and it falls on its face, it completely dies and will not restart. So I start checking it over and it has several codes, 0470, 1211, 1212, 0603, and 0340. so I changed the CPS again still no start, and he checked all the fuses, all fine, so I changed the ICP, EBP, and checked the tin nut on the IPR, it was tight. Now we arent getting any codes at all, but it still will not start. It will try to run on ether ( Yes I know ether is a no no) but it is getting frusterating because it has fuel in it and I can here the fuel pump humming but there is no smoke when cranking. And no, the FPR is not plugged, I checked that. Any help is greatly apprieciated! Thanks,
I thought maybe it would be helpful to post in both forums, but now I'm just real confused! HaHa!! Now seriously, one more symptom, when he first got the truck and the cps was bad, when I cranked on the truck for a few seconds, the oil pressure gauge would come up to where it should be while it is running. Now, when I crank on it the gauge jumps around from about halfway up to nothing then back up then nothing and so on, does this describe anything in particular? thanks guys!
before starting the truck
check the level in the HPOP.
But you cannot really trust that gauge either.
There is a sensor on top of the HPOP, it runs that gauge in the cab your talking about.
Clean it up and make sure its seating good.
And check the HPOP level, it should be within an inch from the top.
being an Early 99, its more of an OBS style truck than a super duty.
But, I'd check the IDM, could have water in it. Trying as rick suggested is a good idea as well.
It really sounds like its getting no fuel though. So, I would check to make sure of that stuff. With no smoke out the tail pipe at all, just sounds like there is a plug up someplace. *shrugs*
I checked the HPOP reservoir, its full, and it is getting fuel to the filter, but no smoke. Yes, the WTS light is working. Can I potentially hurt my truck by swapping the IDM? Thanks,
