Ok lets say i bought a truck from someone and lost the title to it before i made my way to the dmv and get it registered. Also the vin is completley warn away and i cant find it anywhere. Now lets say i got a "donor truck" with a title. How bad would that be legally is i swapped that vin plate and registered it?
On our trucks only you would ever know. Newer vehicles have the VIN stamped everywhere but ours don't. I have a VIN on my door and a different one on my door strike post. As long as neither is stolen and you have paid your taxes then the DMV or cops shouldn't care.
But in all honesty, it has to do with truth and forgery. If you are taking a truck and trying to pass it off as something else that's one thing. If a guy just wants to combine good parts and be honest about it that's another.
However, these trucks are not Mustangs, Camaros or 57 Chevy's where having one substituted part could mean a several thousand dollar difference or a massive lawsuit for a rare car.

Or a few years INSIDE as my good buddy found out working on Chevy trucks!!! We're all about being straight up! Old Broncos are a good example of vehicles that are easy to salvage, one for another. Just swap the glove box door on most 67?-77 (I know 66 has VIN on DS kick panel, not sure what year it moved to glove box door) And since the factory records all burned, you can make any congiuration you want, without being wrong.
Actually Ford was getting ready to trash all the old records, but Keven Marti asked, and was allowed to purchase all of Fords records and documents from 1967 to 1979. He now has a working relationship with Ford for 1980-1989.
Marti Reports cover EVERY Ford vehicle made during that time.
Nothing was burned. Some records are lost for the 1960-1966 era.
