I bought my 00 x about 2 yrs ago the cruise and Horn have never worked and were never really a big issue. But now I'm headed on a Cross Country trip at months end and need to get it fixed ASAP I have herd of a friend that the Clock Spring is a common issue but I'm not sure that is it. I also don't think i have a horn located any where i was told it was tucked up behind the bumper but i have searched every where and have found nothing. So please if you know where the horn i located or any advice on cruise control issues or fixes please let me know
You have to remove the inner fender well to gain access to the horn, you can actually just unscrew some of the bolt and flex the inner fenderwell up and out, but possibly risk breaking it, but it is pretty flexible. Once you do that, you can see the horn. As for your cruise control not working, you should probably check your fuses and possibly the air line going to the diverter solenoid.
This same thing happened on my '01, and the GEM (under the dash) had to be replaced ... which in turn meant my key fobs had to be reprogrammed. Odd as it was, my horn would function with the ignition off.
My first guess would be the clockspring too, but if it were his clockspring, wouldn't he also be getting an SES light for his airbag, since that would be affected too?
thanks for all the help i have checked all the fuses there good. i will check for the horn and and the solenoid line today but i have also wondered how the clock spring can go out with out setting off the air bag light . also what is the GEM?
See this thread, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post8996547 to test the cc but definitely sounds like the clockspring which is best left to the dealer. It's just a printed circuit on a wound spring that with flexing over time breaks. GEM, generic electronic module controls most of the electrical system related to driver input.
It s the clock spring. The clock-spring will look kinda like a round circuit board under the steering wheel. The steering wheel sits right on top of it. If you notice under the bottom of the steering wheel it has copper like rings on it that sits on top of the clock spring in the steering column. This clock-spring will wear from the steering wheel moveing back and fourth.
Not to be a know it all, but the air-bag light will usually flash only if it has high resistance usually giving code 32 this is typical but there are exceptions.
I thought my clock spring was bad, no horn, no cruise control either, but it ended up being a short in the wires behind the clock spring, or a bad connection. It works great now, no problems. Clock spring was the issue thought of however.
well hopefully i will know what the issue was by the end of the weekend just waiting on my clock spring to arrive also does any one know which fender is hiding the horn?

If it's the clock spring, why worry about horn location? Does your horn work when the ignition is off? If so, my money (well, actually YOUR money) is on a new GEM.
Horn is located behind the passenger fender, the mounting bolts are located behind the passenger battery. You must take some of the mounting bolts from the inner fender well liner out and pull it down to access.
I had a 2000 V10 Ex. Mine had the known problem with the brake switch located on the master cyllinder. It leaked brake fluid and there was a small fire. When I took it into the dealer the recall wouldnt replace the wire harness just the switch. They repaired the harness, mostly, and I was left with no horn and cruise because of the harness damage. I would take alook in that area of the firewall and see if somethings been changed.
