vacuum pump?

well it is supposed to be bout 20 pounds if it doesent feel strong enough then you need a vacum pump they say you can also turn the vents on on the3 dash and if when you hit the brakes quick a few times it changes to defrost vents then its the pump but good way to tell is just test the suction on hand and see if it feels like 20 pounds could be booster to did you consider that here is a link to buy the pumps from http://pensacoladiesel.com/1983-1987...cuum-pump.html i know it is for the 7.3 but they are identical

Quick test in a pinch I do is pull the rubber hose off the pump and with the truck idling put your finger right on the pump barb. It should suck your finger quick and strong. If you have to hold it on there for 10 seconds to get any kind of suction, it's shot.
