2008 F350 V10 with about 27K miles. Took delivery of truck in October 2008. The front brakes seem to be locking up. Have noticed strong brake smell a couple times in the past couple of weeks; the most recent occurrence was Thursday evening when I actually saw smoke coming off the passenger-side front brake. Took truck to local tire store just before closing time last night. They put it up on the lift and the driver-side front was very hard to turn; the passenger-side front was a bit easier to turn but still seemed to be dragging too.
Tire store called this morning. Said both front wheels turned freely this morning, so they took it for a test drive and then put it back on the lift. The wheels were locked up again. They told me that it was because the brake hoses had collapsed. The front pads were (as would be expected) excessively worn. They recommonded replacing the hoses, brake lines, calipers and other brake parts for an estimated $900. I asked them to button it up so I could take to a Ford Dealer. I picked up the truck and took to a Ford dealer that I have used in the past.
I realize that normal wear and tear is not covered under warranty. But does this seem like something that would be normal wear and tear? Do brake hoses commonly collapse? This is my 3rd Super Duty (previously had a 2000 PSD and a 2005 PSD). I had no brake issues with either one of the previous trucks. I'm not opposed to paying for the repair if I have to, but if it is possibly a warranty issue....I'd be tickled to let FMC pick up the tab (or the biggest part of it anyhow).
No, not wear and tear. Pads getting thin or rotors warping would be wear and tear, but not brake line failure. Normally when a line goes bad it will balloon giving you a spongy pedal feel.
Pads would be wear and tear, but the calipers and lines I would think would be covered? That's not a lot of miles. Personally never had that problem. If it's not the slide pins. Would have to agree with rvpuller and start with that.
At 10,000 miles FORD replaced the right rear caliper due to the sticking, pads boths rears and now with almost 12,000 the dealer put Anti-seeze on the pins in front.
While a hassle to have to take it in - everything was covered.
Hopefully you will get it taken care of under warranty.
Please post what your dealer does for you.
