Hey guys,'99 F250 in sig.,do we have an orific tube,or do we have an expansion valve, and which ever we have, where is it located? My air seems to cycle off and on and blows out hot air at times, last year I noticed the drier freezing up so I have a drier to put back on,I'm also going to check the air gap,I just wanted to replace the orific tube too while I'm doing a evac and recharge....thanks alot.....Phil
The "hot air at times" is a clue to check air gap.
Don't over-think the problem, at least not yet....

Yeppers, that is a sign, but we have two vacations planned(wife and three kids),and since I'm doin a evac and air drier anyway,I thought i would do all I could..(but yes I'm definately gonna check the air gap).
Well I've had the truck about three and a half years, like I said the drier was freezing up last summer(bought the drier last summer too) so I figured I would replace it,and I know most orifice tubes don't cost that much anyway,by the way,my FIL owns a big truck garage so an evac and recharge doesn't cost me anything but a little R-134.
The drier freezing up doesn't mean it is bad. I've had new driers ice over before. The orifice tube is either in the line between the condenser and evaporator or right in the evap inlet. You should see the tube change sizes, and have a small crimp where the orifice tube is.
The orifice tube (CCOT) is in the evaporator inlet. You'll see it in there when you break the connection. One of our mechanics just changed one on Superduty a few weeks ago at our shop.
Ok,I went out and was watching checking to make sure the clutch on the A/C was releasing/locking up,it's locking up/releasing like it should, but it has an ever so slight wobble(wobble is really to strong a word),but you can see a a slight wobble when compared to the compressor running.I'm sure this is a sign of clutch wear, should I try the air gap/different shim thing, replace the clutch,or replace the entire unit?Cost wise and longevity wise....Thoughts.....
When it comes to air conditioning, I live by the rule of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
So, I disagree. If he's getting cold air, I would advise him to not break open the system AT ALL!
But he seems determined to get inside it, so......

Some people just can't leave well enough alone. LOL
Where would we be if people did? No mods discovered. But, I do have to agree with you, Pop. It does go under that category.

Hey guys, first of all,I wanted to let Marv know that I didn't open the A/C system up...LOL,I ordered a shim pack from Oriellys(part #yf1800amot)I'm still waiting on the kit to come in,it is supposed to have five different thinkness of shims for our A/C,I guess it's application specific,so I'm not sure how the kit will turn out/fit in,when it comes I'll update again. After checking the air gap on my clutch it was.064,we need.020 to .025,while I was waiting for the shims to arrive I thought I would remove the bolt and check,(right Marv...LOL)when I got the clutch off I noticed there was only one shim in there,I removed that shim, reinstalled the clutch and ended up with an air gap of .026.So far it is running/cycling like it should, and the air is very much colder than before.Just wanted to update......
