Yeah, do the pressure tests to have peace of mind, though the lift pumps are very durable on these trucks.

As stated by Festus the FORWARD most terminal is for the FSS or Fuel Shutoff Switch and if you hear that clicking that means it's WORKING, and does not that you need a new pump.(what's that all about?)

Cracking one line won't get your truck started unless you have unlimited battery supply. (as with 98% of us you must have a fuel system air intrusion problem)

I crack 4 lines to start with-- crank until you get fuel from two of them. Close those two, then open two more. Close all the lines two by two once you've got fuel coming out. You shouldn't need to crack more than 6 to git-r-done but the same procedure for all 8 doesn't take much longer.

If your glow plugs aren't working well then all 8 helps a lot.

And by the way-- NICE screen name! My 8th grade social studies teacher pounded that word into our souls, haha. (it's cause she was so easily pursuaded by the verbose and verbally gratifying, lol)

I'll try that too. I have disconnected the power to the glow plugs for now untill i start seeing fuel to the injectors.

What I stated is correct ... If it clicks, the FSS is working, thus the IP may be bad because it's not pumping fuel to the injectors!

Cracking Injector lines to bleed them is a waste of time and just opens the door for further damage ... Cracks/Broken/Stripped/Seat damage.

The return system will carry away any air in the system within a few seconds of cranking, That is the main purpose of the return system. So the everyday Tom, Dick and Harry can have a Diesel without having to have a mechanic bleed the system every time Tom, Dick or Harry runs it out of fuel.

If the IP is so wore out that it cannot push what little air is left, so be it, the IP is bad and it needs replacing!

-Enjoy

I feel like a circus clown juggling all the possibilities. The truck ran great up until it was parked. I cant see the pump just going bad from sitting.

Here is what I'm going to do Monday after work. I'm going to force feed fuel into the injection pump and carry any fuel delivered from the filter to a container. If the forced fuel doesnt deliver any fuel to the injectors, then what. Keep in mind it did run great b4 it was parked. Could the FSS be stuck even though it clicks.

Monday.
Check fuel pressure on the filter shrader valve.

Force feed fuel into the IP. ( crack an injector ) Y/N ?

Oh yeah, I did disconnect the line on top of the IP that feeds to the "return" and cranked the engine over. Fuel did squirt out while it was cranking. This is what leads me to think that the FSS is stuck in the closed position.

If it had any water whatsoever in the IP and it sat, it very well could now be junk ...

This is something I normally do not suggest because of the legality issues of the color red in your fuel ... But try filling the IP with ATF and letting it set for a day or two.

If you have an electric fuel pump laying about you could use it to temporarily feed ATF to the pump that would be ideal for filling the pump as full of pure ATF as possible.

You could even use a boat bulb.

I just went through the same thing... only I changed a few fuel lines and then my pump went bad when I ran it dry... (It had issues before but would always run) I could not understand how it would just stop untill i started researching how tight the clearances and such are in these a little crud will stop your pump and letting it sit for that long could do it... if you have fuel going to the pump and fss is clicking on but but no fuel to injectors (you can even have fuel going out return... I did) your pump is toast... In reality it is probley a very small problem within the pump but it is not to be broken down and rebuilt with out very special tools... so get a new pump and you will have a great running truck!
