how can you tell what year the engine is? ive got a 6.9 out of a 87 f250, found out today the engine might have been swapped out at one time. curious what year this one is...
Look on the right (US Passenger) side of the block, above and forward of the starter at the freeze plug that most install block heaters ... The 85.5 through 87 6.9 has this area built up looking like a donut around the freeze plug hole, there is also a definite channel for the dipstick.
I think there is also some numbers on the flat area between the left (US Drivers side) head and IP gear housing in that flat area of the block.
on my 7.3 it has a international tag right on the driver side of engine bout 6 inches left of the brake fluid holder it says its 7.3 and roughly what man date it was made
