I am in the process of the EGR delete along with new oil cooler, seals, intake gaskets, and a few other items.
Looking in the intake manifold, it is incredibly dirty, oil buildup (assuming from the turbo) and coolant (reason why I'm deleting the EGR). What other issues can cause so much oil buildup?
Should I completely remove the intake manifold and have it blasted out or soaked and cleaned? What is the best way to clean said manifold in your garage?
On a similar note, who other "easy" items can I knock out while I have the top of the engine in pieces?
It's not that hard to remove. IMHO the best way to clean it is to take it to a radiator shop or machine shop and have it hot tanked. That crap is really hard to get out.
I don't know how you drive your truck but a lot of idling or stop and go driving can contribute.
What he said^^. Or if ya wanna clean it yourself. Simple green/car wash. CCV reroute will keep some of that crap out of your intake too. You can buy a kit that comes with a canister to trap the oil or you can vent into atmosphere. It's in the tech folder.

HAHA--no oxymoron. I was first refering to the intake manifold itself then the buildup inside the intake manifold.
I know, I know, I should be more precise sometime, but I've been in the heat the past 2 days and it's really taking it's toll. It's been around middle 90's with a heat index around 110-115 because of the high humidity PLUS I have 2 rivers within a half mile of me that don't help.
I've been rewiring a brake controller in a chevy and redoing the wiring in a boat that looked more like a Crow's nest than anything resembling wiring. Running 16 ga wire 18 ft. to run a 40 lb. thrust trolling motor is a fire waiting to happen. We won't even talk about the soldered crimp on connectors or 14ga. wire as a means of charging the camper battery from the truck, which I disconnected for safety reasons. TRULY some shade tree mechanicing
The 6.0 tech folder is at the beginning of the threads in the 6.0 Forum. ALLLLL the information you probably ever want to read about 6.0 diagnostics and adding more every day.
