Harvest update

Since it was brought up in the fathers day thread and I saw a combine in the field between Salina and Abilene on the way home tonight from Salina, and we know Matt is headed home to help with harvest. How about an update thread on wheat harvest in Kansas. Post up what is going on.

Also, let's see who can come up with the oldest Ford truck that is actually hauling wheat during harvest. A picture would be nice. Old combines are cool too. It would be great to see a really old Massey or Gleaner.

Snapped a couple outside of Salina during the scavenger hunt this morning. The one out in the field was actually pretty old but the zoom on the camera is busted so you can't see it too well

First one is a Case/IH and not too old. The second in the distance is a Gleaner, and also not too old. The second was whacking wheat.

The first combine I drove was an Oliver back in the middle '50's. It was big because it had a 16 foot hume real on the header. LOL

What I missed most about harvest for the last 18 years or so was the harvest food, sitting under the shade of a wheat truck on a very hot day with a fine dirt blowing in adding flavor to the cheesburger mom brought out from 15 miles away in a bread loaf bag, and a bag of chips with additional dirt flavoring.. and a semi cold dr pepper..

U laugh, but I wouldn't have had it any other way... kinda makes me wanna pack a lunch and go sit under some stranger's wheat truck.

Wheat or corn harvest, I always loved seeing that grain come into the bin. It was finally pay day and a sense of accomplishment of having the good Lord provide a harvest.

My parents are have bad luck -- rain for several days that brought tstorms-- little damage around the new farmstead-- but a 88 yr old friend had their place totally whiped out ( she was ok) Parents had no electicity since Sat am.

No harvesting for them yet.
