Question for the master techs: DATC Module - Can I replace it myself?

I've got a truck out of the basic warranty and I have the issue described in TSB 08-19-7 (A/C slow to cool for the Auto A/C system). The TSB mentions that the issue is resolved with a DATC module replacement. Can I replace this part myself? The TSB refers to the Workshop manual section 412-01 but I don't have any way to get that info. TSB shows .4 hrs to replace.

Thoughts?

Question for you, how does the AC work when you use the manual mode vs and automatic climate control?

Can you select the desired vent and adjust your fan speed and temp and it does ok or not?

The manual control directing the air to one vent on recirc seems to do better than the auto setting. The A/C just seems to take forever to cool the cab. I don't know if the DATC module can fix that or not, but I'm grasping at anything to help.

They just changed mine out in my truck under warranty this week. The truck would blow cool air but never really cold air. Once they replaced that control it blows cold air now. From what I can see the control is just plugged in, the .4 hours is probably to take the dash apart which is pretty simple as well, I have had mine apart to look at the stereo.

That module should just be a plug and play.

Is the DATC module the visible dash module with the buttons and digital display? Just wondering if it was that or a special board somewhere inside the dash. Thanks.

It is the visible dash control with the digital display, when they replaced mine it still had the protective plastic on the screen.

DATC

Hi All, I know that this thread is from last year but I'm having a similar issue with a similar question.

My 2008 F250 with the electronic dual temperature control is acting up. The truck is no longer under warranty and I'm reasonable handy so I thought I would do it myself (if possible).

Here's the symptoms:

1. The fan blows as soon as the truck is turned on and it's running full blast.

2. The fan controls don't affect anything - up or down.

3. I press the AUTO control and nothing seems to happen.

4. The OFF button is unresponsive. This thing is blowing loud and it sucks to now be able to turn off the fan. Seeing that it's winter, it's better than not having any fan but regardless, it's time to get this fixed.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

D

Hey. My name is Tyler. I drive a 2008 F250 V10, and I am having the same problem you mentioned 2 years ago. I am also desperate for a fix. We're you able to fix your truck, and if you were, how did you do it. Thanks in advance for the reply!

UPDATE

Hi Tyler,

Here's my personal update.

I had to take my truck in to get a replacement key and get the auto codes for the door keypad. While I was there I struck up a conversation with the tech who was doing the work (in the parking lot). I told him about the blower issue, he told me it was a common problem with the 08-10 year trucks. He said the DATC module had failed and "failure mode" means that it turns the fans onto high as a safety precaution. For example, if you were driving on a cold wet night you would need the fan to continue to blow so the default when they pop is to turn the fans on high.

Mine has been doing this for a while now. I can't adjust the fan but I can adjust the temperature and which vents it comes out of. I can never turn the fans off...

He said it's an easy fix, one that I could do myself, but he said that the part costs almost $400 (I'm in Canada). I'm guessing that I could proabably source the part cheaper in the USA but I was waiting, mainly for one reason.

If I could read somewhere about the steps to fix this, I would feel much more confident about ordering the part and doing it myself. To this point, I have never found a thread about how to replace the DATC so I haven't sourced the part and fixed the problem.

If anyone has some information, please post it.

Thanks,
D

It is very simple. I've had to remove mine a handful of times installing my aftermarket stereo. remove about 4 screws, pop that center dash cover and you have access to the datc
