I'm not drinking as much as I used to either, so it's become a little more affordable to enjoy less common brew from time to time. My new favorite (which is amazing, because there are so many great brews out there that I've never been able to pick just one) is the Speedway Stoute by Alesmith. This DES ription still won't do it justice - but it's a perfect balance of smooth and creamy texture, even better balance of malt and hop flavors... and they even use coffee beans that give itpart of it's distinctive flavor.
I stumbled across it when I was down in San Diego. I like to try new food and drink wherever I go, so asked the waitress for something local when she brought out a Beer list twice the lenght of their wine list. (I was thrilled to realize that the two head chefs were both hardcore beer nerds. If it were cigars, they would be afficianados. Wine, 'experts' - sometimes mistaken for snobs. Beer guys tend to be a bit more laid back... I kinda liked that about these two.) I have a deep seated love of dark beers to begin with that I don't expect everyone to understand... the textures and flavors aren't for everyone... but then again, neither is diesel. Getting back to the point, the beer arrived at our table in a champagne bottle and is served in two champagne glasses, showing off the color and the way the head settled at the top of the glass. My wife has since given me the ok to special order it at the house, I think she enjoyed it even more than I did.
There are dozens of amazing beers out there that are perfect for enjoyng with a friend, but I couldn't help appreciating that this one almost had to be experienced. I'd love to make a trip down to their brewery in SD some time to sample their other offerings. I'll keep you guys posted if you like.
Can't help being impressed by anything that well made.
Would love that. Sadly, I haven't made it down to Ale Smith either and it looks like I'll be shipping out again in the next few days here. When I make it back we'll have to arrange something. Until then, I'm going to take advantage of being able to place orders online.

Ale, but hadn't tried any of their other brews.
When its just me and a buddy sharing a beer, or working on my truck or any of the cars, a frosty can or bottle of Coor's light gets my vote... But when I'm at the bar, I prefer Hefeweizen, Widmer and Pyramid are my favorites, Shock Top, or if they have it, Hangar 24, brewed right out in Redlands, with a nice Orange slice to set off the whole glass perfectly....
Nothing like an ice cold Olympia (It's the water!) for me. Bud Light is a close second. Reminds me of getting ready for my buddy's wedding in the back room area behind the altar. Best man forgot the flask of whatever and the priest was really enjoying listening to the conversation. He disappeared for a moment and brought a six pack of Schaefer beer from the back room behind the altar. If anyone has had any...hmmmm. To top it off, he hadn't had time to get it cold yet. So yes, we each had a warm can, including the priest, and it was good and the perfect toast right before the nuptials. I guess we laughed a little at the time for drinking an older guy's type of beer, if there is such a thing, but we were sure greatful. And now, I get kidded all the time about my fondness for Olympia, apparently an older guy's beer. I've gotta try a cold Schaefer some time if it is still around!
BEVMO to the rescue for me most of the time. Every once in a while they are sold out, so I guess there are some others that still like it too. I'll bring some to the next get together that you get going sir!
That is one hilarious song! I wish I could add the Tom T. Hall "I Like Beer" song that is right up the same alley. Man that is neat and thanks for sharing. I had never heard it before!
Unbelievable! That is awesome! Looks like Buck Owens Crystal Palace a little bit. Thanks for that sir! A smile on my face for the rest of the day...And maybe a beer in my hand after the yard work and taking another listen to these.
