Removing Batteries

Long story short, I have to go swap out both batteries for my 2006 F-250 6.0L. My truck is not here, and I have to go home, get my tools, and go to the truck. Can someone please tell me what size sockets (anything metric?), etc are required so I do not have to make multiple trips back to the house to get more tools?

Thank you!

OOps - I forgot about loosening the hold-down bolts at the bottom of the battery. You will need a socket for them. I can check the size in 10 minutes if you can wait.

Mine are 8 mm (both the terminal nut and the hold down bolt). A 6 inch extension would be handy also.

Thanks bismic for the correction. Been awhile since I've changed mine, and my memory doesn't seem to want to work today.

Recently replaced mine and looked in several places at many batteries. Best deal for the money I could find was Bosch batteries at Pepboys. $79 a piece for 850 cca, 1000 ca. Of course the Optima batteries are better but a bit pricey.

you need a short extension, a long thin flat blade screw driver, a 10mm socket and an 8mm socket.

Don't forget some anti-corrosion pads and spray. I also put an extremely thin coat of vaseline on the posts and then wipe it off. Seals the pores.
