I rebuilt the carb. on my '51 Merc. flathead, it is the 94 carb, marked EAB. I put it back on and it runs fine but seems to be leaking fuel from the side of the accelerator pump casting. I can't find the leak, or see a crack, the side of the carb just gets "wet" with fuel once the fuel bowl fills up (running or just cranking). It does not seem to be leaking from the top gasket or the bottom gasket, or from the accelerator pump shaft. It is as if it is leaking right through the casting on the side of the accelerator pump well. It didn't seem to be leaking before I took it off, the only thing I adjusted is the float level, the rebuild kit gave measurements for float level which now seem to be wrong. I am going to recheck the float setting tonight. Could this be the problem? Are there any other things I should look for? Has anyone ever had a casting leak/crack?
Never mind. Stripped it out tonight and the accelerator pump well is leaking through the casting. Can't see a crack or hole but it leaks. Gotta replace, the hunt is on...
