Polarizing Generator

This may be a dumb question......when I was connecting my in-line fuse wire for my heater switch, I only disconnected the negative cable from my battery (6 volt-positive ground). Upon reconnecting, do I need to polarize my generator?

Probably not. The field coils in the genny will normally retain their polarity when the system is disconnected for a short time.

The only time you need to polarize is if you replace the generator. As BOR noted this procedure is to install a magnetic charge in the generator filed coils and once it is done it's perminent (baring a rebuild, demagnetizing or alien abduction).

Most regulators tell you to do it when you install a new regulator and that's fine - it won't hurt anything to do it again.
