So I just did a the clean up on my 400 and now that its almost ready to fire I would like to replace all the fluids but not sure what specifics/ brands I need to follow and or stay away from for them. I know sometimes people have select brands they use for one reason or another. I guess thats what kind of info Im searching for here.
Any Suggestions for these:
Oil
Oil Filter
Transmission Fluid
Transfer Case Oil
Brake Fluid
Oil - I use Quaker State synthetics but other oils are just as good - I'm not sure if any one brand is "better" than another - I do tend to stay away from Pennzoil, though...
Oil Filter - Motorcraft.
Transmission fluid & brake fluid - I base this decision on price, but I tend to stay away from "store brands". Unless brand loyalty is an issue, I don't really think one is better than another.
Transfer case oil - No preference there either, but I may switch to a synthetic later on down the road...
Just my thoughts, take them for what their worth...
Oil I use Shell Rotella T 15w-40, it has the extra additives these engines like. Oil filter is a motorcraft FL-1a. Tranny fluid, usually I just buy 13 qts of the cheapest Type F I can find. Transfer case, no preference either. Brake fluid...for some reason I always end up grabbing Prestone, dunno why, no preference...I think it's just because the yellow bottle jumps out at me.
