Cam bearings?

When I took my block in to be bored, I asked them not to hot tank it (I have a steam cleaner at home). Well, they pulled the cam bearings and tanked it. Now, I have ordered the new bearings, but do they have to be honed after or do they just get driven in?

They drive in, but there are certain ones that go in certain holes, and I think the 85 and 86 blocks have different OD measurements than the older and newer ones.

You'd most benefit from a cam bushing driver, or a machine shop that can do it.

they do not get honed, and are set with a tool. I usually pay the machine shop to put mine in. the hot tank is a good thing, you will never get the block as clean with a power washer, believe me, I have tried. make sure to wipe the block down with laquer thinner before painting, as there is usually an oil film left over from the hot tank process. not takeing off the oil film will cause the paint to peel off in sheets apeoxamately 1 year later, or during it's 1st car show, whichever comes 1st.

Clifford Performance Cam Warning

I was reading over on the other forum. A guy put a new Clifford cam in his brand new rebuilt 300, and it ate the cam bearings within a very short time.

He said the cam journals did not look polished like the lobes. Clifford told him it ate the bearings because he used a motor oil with the zinc, like you are supposed to with a new cam.

The consensus on the other forum is that the factory either 'forgot' to polish the journals, or they spun the cam the opposite direction when grinding it, thereby leaving 'micro burrs' to file the bearings.

The guy went through two sets of bearing in a flash, put in a CRANE cam, and it is great. Clifford doesn't want to refund his money. For a company that charges nearly TWICE market value for a cam stick (the Clifford 264 duration cam sells for almost $400!!!, and doesn't even give you a lap dance for that price), it seems they would want to cultivate a good reputation by offering excellent customer service. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

If it were me buying a cam, I would avoid Clifford and buy from one of the other companies making quality sticks: Iskindarian offers a 262 duration, for example.

I'm getting my cam custom ground by Delta in Tacoma, WA. I have used their services before with excellent results. They can grind a cam to match any other mods and move your power band around quite a bit.
This is my second hi-po 300 build, and I don't intend to give Clifford any money for this one either. I do not like how you basically must use their headers with their intake, or how much they charge.
