Ok, so I got my '92 351w block all cleaned up, new cam bearings installed, painted, etc.
I installed the cam last night and I have got excessive endplay. The books I have been using for the rebuild don't have much info on cam installation and I figure I must have missed something pretty important.
It seems like the cam can move to the back of the motor too much. I installed a new cam plug when I did the bearings. Is it the cam plug that determines how far the cam can move towards the back? Do I just need to push the cam plug into the block further?
The thrust plate must be in place, and cam gear MUST be on the cam shaft, when you check you're camshaft end-play. .004 -.008 of an inch is acceptable.
