I have a 1999 superduty with a v10 engine. I noticed recently that my 4X4 wasnt engaging so i checked it and found that the hub lock were not working so I got myself some new heavy duty Warns. when i changed them out i noticed the hub bearing was messed up so I changed both hub bearings. I installed the new parts and picked it up on jackstands and the left front wheel is not engaging it sounds like it wants to, it gives half a spin and it stops. Does anyone know what else it could be?
what about the other wheel? Does it turn along with the front drive shaft?
Your front end is gonna be an open diff, so both wheels may or may not turn at the same time. What you are after is that front drive shaft locked to the transfer case and putting some power to at least one wheel.
my 01 7.3 f350 has locking diff. and all wheels will turn the same way. if i turn one tire the other will turn the same direction. if you don't have a locking diff. and you turn the tire one will turn CCW and the other will turn CW. This is with the truck jacked up tires off the ground, so if you have it in gear one tire will turn and the other might not, or turn slower. With locking diff. all 4 tires will turn the same direction.

What do you mean "stops" ? Does it lock after that "half spin" ?
Did you put grease in the Warns? If so, heavy grease can cause them to not engage as quickly as you want them to.
What I do with my Warns is lock them BEFORE I get stuck Move a few feet forward while turning the wheels back and forth, and they lock everytime. They DO need some motion to lock, they hardly ever lock right away without any motion.
That front left wheel seems to lock somehow after the half spin. It doesnt turn even if i try to move it manually once i engage the 4X4. Im just wondering if thats normal. I dont think it is but ive never really owned a 4x4 before so im not sure.
once you lock it into 4x4 then the front drive shaft is connected (not free turning) to the transfer case. It is then able to pass that power onto the front wheels.
So out of 4x4 you should be able to turn the driveshaft even with the truck in park.
In 4x2 (2 wheel drive) the front driveshaft should spin freely.
And to be even more accurate, WITH THE HUBS UNLOCKED, and the transfer case in 4x2 (or selector switch on dash in 4x2), the front driveshaft should spin freely
