Auto hubs engage by themselves

Auto hubs engage by themselves
Is it possible or has anyone had their auto locking hubs engage spontaneously? I was out in some good sloppy mud a few weekends back and ever since I have had an occasional popping coming from the driver side front wheel hub. I just had an alignment and bearings done on the front end so I know that these are in good shape and it really feels like the hub is engaging in 4 wheel drive. Also has anyone ever taken their push button 4x4 and converted it to a shift 4x4 using the same transfer case? I guess I should have said that I have a 1994 Bronco XLT with a 302, E4OD, auto hubs, and push button 4x4.
Thanks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Feb-02 AT 06:33 PM (EST)]hey ditch the auto hubs they not worth the powder to blow them to hell . i had a 94 ranger and mine blew out half way through the first alaskan winter and that was just drivin to work and back no hot roddin. that is what mine sounded like. i got a set of warn manual lock hubs and never loocked back. auto hubs are for soccermoms and cute little college girls w/white cotton panties.

The manual hubs were my next upgrade, just waiting for my next payday. I still am curious about converting the transfer case to lever activated and not with the push button though. I was under the Bronco a few nights back and noticed there is a knock out for the lever to come up through the floor. HMMMM
