Whats it called ...
Miss Kitty thanks you for your post. A week ago she and I took my truck out to haul off a washer & dryer for a lady. Having her in the truck for the first time in months I showed off and turned the heater fan on low - even though I knew the doors were stuck in defrost and that they were full of "stuff".
After a few seconds we started looking for the leaf/grass fire someone had going, but quickly realized that there was nothing for a mile and it must be us. So, I turned the fan off and the smell went away.
When I got home I pulled the cowl awa the heater motor and sucked out all the leaves and twigs - so much that I had to empty the shop vac. Given that, I figured that the smell was actually chopped leaves and that I'd solved the problem.
But, when you posted I realized I'd missed something - the resistor pak. When I pulled it today I found it full of leaves, even though the area around it was clear. They were stuck in the resistor coils. And, since in the low fan setting the big resistor gets HOT, I'm sure that was the true problem - although cleaning that w/o cleaning the rest of the "system" would be for naught. Thanks!
S find it helpfull too....
