Stock Heater TYPE help needed

Hey everybody,

Noticed a little antifreeze trickle on my floor mat underneath the heater box and thought maybe my buddy who installed it didnt get a hose all the way tight. I checked into and I believe I have a leaking heating core.

I remember this thread a few weeks back.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ml#post9978158

I wasn't sure which style this core was used on.

My question to everyone is what type of heater do I have? Here are pics of mine in my 55.

I think it is recirculating based on info from the Mid 50's catalog but Im not sure. I ran to the local mom and pop NAPA parts house and the guys told me get my core and bring it over and we will find one as close as possible to it. I want to find a later model OEM application if possible. Any and all help is appreciated. Was thinking of driving it 270 miles to visit my Mom for her birthday this weekend. The trickle of antifreeze is very small but enough to irritate. Thanks All

Mine had a very similar leak. It was fractured and leaking at the joint where the hose enters the core (which is very common for these heaters). I pulled it out and a guy at the local radiator shop fixed it in less than an hour. I know you asked which model it was (and hopefully somebody will tell you), but you're gonna be pressed for time finding a replacement. So you might take it and see if they can fix it before the weekend. I tried soldering mine myself. Didn't work out too well. They put a flux on mine at the radiator shop.

thanks Mountain Doc. I will likely end up driving my late model truck. I have a good friend who runs a radiator shop. I was thinking if I could get a late model OEM application for under $50 shoot that would be the way versus repairing. thanks again

Oh no problem. That core looks really good behind that frame. I tried to find a new core for mine with no success. You might want to send a PM or email to Jordan (aka "fifty-two_f1"). He knows a ton about these old heaters.

It is a recirculating, and they look good hanging under the dash to me. Dont trash it. Radiator shop can have you going shortly or--mid fifties.

Why not just close the valve on the engine block. If it is warm enough where you are travelling you won't need any heat...

I bought the core listed above (from O'Reilley's $39.** shipped to your door) and its pretty much the same dimensions. the only difference is the length of the tubes(they're about 4") and the fact that you'll probably have to drill two new hole in the back of your housing(where nobody will see them). I've only dropped it in and haven't looked that closely, but initial thoughts are that it looks VERY promising.
