Air Conditioning System help
Off the top of my head, the AC system on my 86 holds slightly over 3 pounds.
So R 12 would have a price of slightly over 300 for the freon alone.
Freeze-12 AC Oil Charge R12 Refrigerant Replacement: eBay Motors (item 270607609649 end time Jul-21-10 07:10:51 PDT)
if you dont have the charge hose, thats like 20$,and the oil is even cheaper.
i was told 3 pounds in another thread too,and he said that was about 4 12 oz cans.he said like 7 oz of oil,so even if you need a fully recharge its quite cheap.
edit,oh wait.thats only a 4 oz can.thats not very good.......yeah search freeze 12 at amazon.they have deals on kits and the 12 oz cans,WAY better than that.
FORDF250HDXLT, when I spin the pump sheave, it sounds like a jar half full of nuts and bolts being shaken vigorously. Something is obviously wrong and I can't just recharge it with R12 and expect it to work.
What is done when the A/C pump is "rebuilt"? Do they just replace the sheave bearing, o-rings and seals you get in the conversion kit and repaint it?
whatever you do,dont buy anything until someone who knows whats wrong helps you.im still waiting too.searching like mad lol.

well,at least your further ahead than i am.so far i cant get mine to engage at all lol.
this may come in handy for both of us:

i dunno mech,im guessing here that your clutch is shot, but your compressor still works fine.
im guessing my clutch and compressor are both shot.
man,i had a good one in the garage in a bag that got from the salvage yard, cus it went out on my last truck, and never did put it on.cant find it,to see if would be the same.
now i gotta figure out what engines,if any,use the same compressor, and i'll just head to the yard to get the whole thing.easy as pie to swap, and like 50 bucks or so.need oil/complete recharge after though.
ahh well.beats being sticky after work! kinda missing a/c with these temps.
Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
depending on the part and price,i'll travel up to 2 hr one way generally.the southern yards are a bit far for most stuff, down around Portland, but pretty much any of 'em mid state.
silvers/green point/sun auto are a few that come to mind.
when i thought i was getting a DRW axle,i went down out of state to NH to get it(cus their kinda hard to find, plus $250 price tag.)still was worth it though,i got the rear adapters for half price as new,and a whole srw axle to sell,if i ever take the time to list the darn thing lol.
iv never seen an IDI truck in these yards.
Maine is not the best place to keep older rigs going as you know, cus the yards crush anything like over 10 yrs old it seems, and even if they didn't it would be a pile of rust out there anyway.
internet is our only hope lol.
just recently i bought the bottom filter/water separator drain deal there, from a guy on OBN from cali lol.well,it should be in the mail anytime now anyway.
If turning the pulley sounds bad, it's the pulley bearing.
If you've got the hoses off the top of the pump and there's oil in it, turning the clutch plate should make some interesting squirting sounds from the pump ports. And if you turn the clutch back and forth it should produce a wet sloppy sucking sound lol
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
If your system freon pressure is to low, the clutch will not engage to turn the compressor.
I converted mine to 134 several years ago.
The complete conversion was less than the cost of a pound of R 12 at that time.
