460 intake

ive seen a couple of guys on here with 460 intakes on their signatures with their f150 and f250 trucks? i searched around buy couldnt find any threads on them. what exactly are you guys doing with this and why?

Are you talking intake manifold or cold air intake

ive probably seen both. i just wasnt sure why people were doing this and was wondering what kind of gains there getting.

I bet you're referring to the intake tube swap, the part in question is between the airbox and grill. the I6 and 460 trucks use a different one than the small block V8's and the former appears to provide better airflow potential as it draws from a large hole besides the rad instead of over the top between the rad and hood. I seriously doubt this makes any difference on a stock motor however.

yeah thats probably it. what exactly are guys doing with this? is it just to get better airflow?

Yeah it's an attempt to improve intake airflow, but as already stated the intake system really isn't a point of restriction on a stock 300/302/351 truck so there won't be any noticable gains here until the exhaust is improved and the engine upgraded to move more air.

I have the I6/460 lower intake tube. I am almost certain that it works better especially when its really hot weather. It gets cooler air than the 5.0/5.8 tube does. Its a cheap and easy mod. It takes about a minute to swap it out.
