ive seen a couple of guys on here with 460 intakes on their signatures with their f150 and f250 trucks? i searched around buy couldnt find any threads on them. what exactly are you guys doing with this and why?
I bet you're referring to the intake tube swap, the part in question is between the airbox and grill. the I6 and 460 trucks use a different one than the small block V8's and the former appears to provide better airflow potential as it draws from a large hole besides the rad instead of over the top between the rad and hood. I seriously doubt this makes any difference on a stock motor however.
Yeah it's an attempt to improve intake airflow, but as already stated the intake system really isn't a point of restriction on a stock 300/302/351 truck so there won't be any noticable gains here until the exhaust is improved and the engine upgraded to move more air.
I have the I6/460 lower intake tube. I am almost certain that it works better especially when its really hot weather. It gets cooler air than the 5.0/5.8 tube does. Its a cheap and easy mod. It takes about a minute to swap it out.
