I have a 2001 F250 PSD that won't start, when you turn the key the dash lights come on like usual but when you turn the key to start it just clicks and the engine does not turn over. My code reader shows a P0603 code. I have a Edge programmer on the truck which I have reset back to factory settings and unpluged but this did not fix the problem. I have had this at a local Ford dealer last week and they couldn't find a problem, their comment was bring it back when it does it again, well it has done it again and I'm having it towed in again.
Batteries, corroded cables, maybe even a starter on it's way out. That little clicking sound you hear is your truck telling you there's a voltage issue.
batteries and alternator are good, when I say it clicks, I'm talking about the dash lights act like the truck when it starts, it doesn't click like it has a low battery, nothing happens when you turn the key.
No help, but I am having a similar problem. I have a 2000 Excursion PSD. I tried to jump my son's car about a week and a half ago. After the jump, I killed the Excursion and it would not crank after that. Dash lights would come on, relays click but nothing from the starter. A day later, started right up as if nothing wrong. Went on errands with several stops and starts over a couple of days, no problem. Got in to go to work, on Monday nothing. Changed batteries, they were under warranty (tech said they were bad), started that day, no problem. Sat over the weekend, would not start on Monday. Tried several times over the next couple of days, nothing. Tried it on Thursday night, started right up. Started every time for the next couple of days. Got up to go to church today, no crankee. I'll watch your thread to see if anybod has any thoughts.
Just went out and tried again. Same old thing, nothing. Left the ignition on and jumpered the starter solenoid/relay. Sure enough, it cranked right off and ran. Killed the switch and it would not start on its own. Jumpered again and it started right up and ran. Does this mean the relay is bad or does it just help diagnose the problem?
Have a 2001 F250 that periodically doesn't start. We bought 2 new batteries and it continues to not want to start. This only happens from time to time. Any suggestions?
My problem ended up being a $12 starter relay. Evidently when I jumped my son, it shorted out the relay. I carried a wire around for a couple of weeks and jumpered the relay whenever it wouldn't start on its own. Not knowing what the exact problem was, I finally just started to change out the cheapest thing I could and fortunately that was the problem.
