how do you tell if you have the bad diode? my truck is an 01 built 12/00 170,000 miles no probs so far but im thinking it cant last forever and im going to start putting a lot more miles on it

All diesel trucks built between July, 2000, and March, 2001 left the factory with a mechanical diode in the transmission. The only way that I know to be certain is to take the trans out of the truck and tear it down. Then you can be certain if you have it or not.
If you had the truck from new and the trans was never out of the truck then you have a mechanical diode.
My truck has had the diode since new. I have the maintenance records since new and it has never had the tranny worked on.
I jacked up the rear wheels and rotated them as if the truck was going forward. The tranny made a "growling" noise as the diode did it's job. Not a clicking, more of a low growl.
