Generally I don't see more than a 15 deg difference in my eot and coolant temp. But if I switch to max a/c the coolant temp drops but eot stay the same. Which creates a 20-23 deg difference. This is while under heavy acceleration or just cruising at 75 mph. Ive read that 15 deg difference is the max I should have. Am I looking at some repairs soon?
I'm thinking I'll get a coolant filter installed. Any recommendations?
My question is why does the coolant temperature drop when the AC is on? One would think that if anything temps would go up since more heat is being introduced ahead of the radiator.
That would lead me to think that the oil cooler is not working as effectivley as it should, and the oil temperature is not dropping to match the coolant temperature (or staying within the 15 degree range). All points to the oil cooler being (or starting) to clog on the coolant side. Although you mention adding a coolant filter, this does not fix the problem, just prevents it on the next cooler. If the problem is let go too long, then the reduced flow to the EGR cooler will cause it to fail, and can cause ALL sorts of heartache. Is your truck still under warranty? Others will chime in (I am not sure) if this is a proactive repair while under warranty, or if something has to fail to be repaired.
They will if the silicate dropout and casting sand are not filtered out. Fix the oil cooler and install a coolant filter ans some monitoring equipment.
So, I cleaned my EGR valve for the first time. It was a real bear to get loose. But i got it off. THe valve itself didn't seem to bad. The intake did have some oil sludge. So from what I've found searching the forum is that this is probably the oil cooler leaking/failing? SO that may explain the difference in the eot and ect. Funny thing is yesterday while pulling my larger trailer at 70 mph into the wind it was easily under 15 degree difference. But without the trailer on it again fluctuated from 15-22 degrees difference. I think I will do an oil cooler upgrade. Is the bullet proof diesel one good?
If there wasn't a lot of sludge then I'm hoping I'll beat the egr cooler failure. I'm thinking of doing the egr delete or bypass. My Ford tech said they would still be able to do diagnoses and repairs if I modify the truck.
While yall on the subject,
Does anyone know what an oilcooler replacement costs? Just curious, I've read a lot on this issue and it seems to be a common problem. The girl has head gaskets, so i assume the oil cooler or injectors will be the next culprit. Not that I have a lack of faith, just one of those things i want to keep an eye on. Also, does the edge insight measure EOTs?
Thanks, input is much appreciated.
