i was helping a friend install his 6637 from riffraff and found this inside his intake path to the turbo.
Does anyone know what can cause this? He had some gunk in his airbox by some sort of drain tube. he also has a K&N replaement filter.
Also,
does anyone know where to get a good replacement for the orange tube? his is in bad shape and needs replaced asap.
Thats really ugly! Here is where I got mine. I don't remember them being quite as pricey. CCV issues are the likely the cause of all the oil. Your buddy has a bunch of work ahead to clean that mess up.
K&N replacement filters do not perform well in front of a turbo. What did the intake wheel look like on the turbo? I'm guessing he needs a new wheel at a minimum. You might go ahead and check for blowby too.
Poor filtration combined with CCV gasses can cause the build up you see in the picture.
A buddy of mine has that K&N replacement filter. Last I talked to him he had just taken it out to clean and oil it. Said it was pretty well clogged up and wasn't flowing air to well. Now in the case of your friend could the filter have been so clogged that the turbo was sucking oil up out of the engine?
oh yeah, when I took my intake apart to do the DIY intake, mine was all nasty like that too. I think it does have a little bit to do with having a plugged up filter and scavenging some air through the CCV... What a stupid design, speaking of which... Time to pull everything apart and go through it again... dang it
to me that looks like more dirt than oil but you will have some oil in that tube from the CCV (crank case vent)
Thats what it looked like to me too. Like i said, theres a big hose looking thing thats on the bottom rear of the stock air box. It looked like it was supposed to be sealed at the end. His was frayed and there was a good bit of goop and debri right inside his air box that was close to the entrance of the hose.
all the dirt came from the POS air box they don't seal and they let alot of dirt in you might want to start looking at the turbo now to see if the wheel looks like it's been ran across concret
