WOW! I didnt know they made such a thing as a stainless glasspack! Do you think it would sound good as a single 3"? I had some 2 1/4" duals on my old 1980 f250 and they were LOUD! I dont remember who made them but they "cackled"- sounded awesome. I just dont want THAT much noise in the cab. Maybe the newer ones are a little better nowadays........
Yes, they do cackle a bit, but remember the longer they are the mellower they sound. Today's glasspacks are better than the stuff we ran in the 70's. Still, I do have an old set of Purple Hornies on my 1963 Grand Prix. Nice mellow burble until you jump on the throttle, then it's loud enought o make little children run.
Not to sound ignorant, but by "drone" yall mean that resonating sound inside the cab, right?
Exactly. Like a loud cider jug hoot. If it's loud enough it'll even pulsate like a helicopter bop. Gives most folks a horrendous migraine after a while.
Well, I have made up my mind. I was out and about today and I stopped at a local RV dealership and there was an 08 SD 5.4 sitting in the parking lot. As I walked by I noticed an exhaust tip sticking out the side of the truck in front of the back tire. It was a long glasspack and a 4" tip. I didnt get a chance to talk to the owner, but I ran outside really quick as the truck was leaving the parking lot, and it sounded GOOD! Not too noisy, just a really nice rumble until he got out on the road. I was impressed. So now I just have to figure out how long of a glasspack will fit in there. I already found a 4" tip on amazon for cheap, just need the pack now. Thanks for all the help everyone! Once I get it done I will have to figure out how to post an audio file.
