Cruising down the road if I mash the gas the truck does not downshift...
Is this normal ??
Any way to force a downshift to get moving alittle more with out causing any damage ??
I know about the "M" mode but just wondering if I can slide the shifter from D to M at speed without causing damage....
You should be able to. I dont see why not. It should just automatically be in the gear you are in when you put it in M from D and then you can down shift it one.
Is it safe just to lock out 6th for example in [D] then add it back to the computer to allow it to shift back into sixth when you want it to? If you lock out 6th, it should cause it to shift down to 5th.
That should be no different than switching to [M] and probably a better option.
ALDOT decided to begin road construction on several roads at once around my area a week before I received my truck so I've been locking out 6th or 6th and 5th depending on how slow traffic gets.
It annoys me when it trys to shift into 6th at 30 mph, then 5th, then 6th, etc..
I don't like it shifting that much. Although, I've only locked out gears that I have not reached yet (such as lock out 5 and 6 while I'm in third).
This is the 1 thing I want an '11 truck for most. The manual mode 6sp. I test drove one and you can shift in and out of manual mode while driving with no consequences. Then you can hold whatever gear you want.
Towing and heavy traffic are exactly why I would do this and you should be fine. A while back I asked Matt at Spartan if he could program the 5R100 on the '08's to do this using the DashDaq. I don't remember why but it was not possible. sure would be nice tho.
sorry... but I am not sure what you mean by "lock out" a gear.
Can you clarify that for me ?
Thank you !
Sure.
While you are shifted in [D], press either the + or - button on the column shifter. This will activate the gear numbers on your dash (6 5 4 3 2 1) even though you are still in automatic mode.
To lock out gears, simply push the " - " button and the numbers will begin to disappear from your screen starting with 6. To add them back, press the " + " button and the numbers will reappear on the screen again.
I don't have the 4.2 inch LCD screen so I'm not sure where the gear numbers show up but on my standard dash it's directly above P R N D M 2 1.
Heck, sometimes I push + just to activate the numbers on the screen since it shows what gear you are in; just don't get distracted...haha.

Sweet.
Thank you !!
I will give it a try tomorrow and see how that works.
What does the tow/haul buton on the end of the gear shifter do ?? I thought that was to lock out the over drive ??
Heck, I wonder what all else I am missing out on... I need to do a bunch of reading about and playing with this new truck.

...
no.. it tells the computer that there is a big weight out back, and change the shift rules some..
on acceleration it holds the gear longer to maximize speed gain in each gear.
on braking, it tells the computer to downshift to use engine to assist on slow down.
amazing assistance when towing my show car trailer..
