Finally Towed

We'll I finally got around to towing my 14k 5'er with my new truck. Let me tell you, "WOW". Plenty, plenty, plenty of power and control. I'd say better than my chipped 05 6.0 I traded in. Rarelly down shifted only on steep overpasses. Bit disappointed with the MPG average though. Towed my 5'er for 75 miles and the Lie-ometer said "10 mpg averge". Oh well, that's not why I bought her for but would have expected better. Maybe she needs some break in. My 05 gave me 12 but had 67k miles on it.

Good info, please keep the forum informed. I understand that overall mileage improves dramatically after a few good tows. It probably continues to improve as more and more miles are put on the truck until full break-in has been completed.

10 MPG, that's a lot better than my '09 6.4. The best mileage I got with my 6.4 towing my little 10K 5er was 7.2 [calculated]. The best mileage i got with my '05 6.0 and the same 5er was 10.4 [calculated] I can't wait to get my 2011.
Your truck look great!

I have gotten as high as 11 towing 10K flatbeds and 9 towing my 14K 5er with the 6.4. I would hope for a couple more mpg off this new motor since egr and # of regens should be slightly less.

10 is pretty respectable towing a heavy 5er. Also, it sounded like you were in the mountains which makes it even more respectable. Now, truth be told, how did you drive all that power? If you were feeling good about all that power and kicking it in the butt a little, well you know what that does to economy.

Nah, didn't get excited as I had my family with me. Safety first here. I didn't go past 65 all the way. No mountains only overpasses(small ones). I'm not complaining as it comes with the territory. Love my truck.
