Shutting down when warm

My 2002 F350 7.3 4wd AT is shutting down when warm. The engine does not run rough before it dies. The engine will start again once the engine temp returns to cold. The engine starts right up when cold just doesn't restart once it stalls. I have replaced the CMP, fuel filter and the oil pressure switch. The oil pressure switch seemed to fix the problem for 2 days, then yesterday the truck died again. I did not check for codes and there are no warning lights on.

CMP??

I would be leaning towards the CPS. But I am not sure this isnt what you are already saying.

My manual abbreviated the camshaft position sensor as cmp. I believe that is the same. Thanks

Welcome to FTE.

Explain a little bit more on what you mean by "cold." Do you have to let the truck sit overnight, a few hours, etc?

The temp gauge has to return to the cold position. I just noted from another post to check for oil in the HP oil system pressure sensor connector. It was oily, could that cause this problem?

I just fully warmed up the truck (in park) and put it in drive. The truck went about 100 yds and when I let off the throttle the engine died just like it was shut off. Now I'm waiting for it to cool back down to restart to get it off the road.

The truck sat for 4 hours, the temp gauge was on cold and started right up and I drove it home. Runs great when cold.

Might be your ipr. I heard of someone putting a bag of ice on it and could get it to start that way.

My truck did the same thing when the IPR was sticking. Would run fine for a while, then die. Couldn't restart the truck for a while until it sat for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, then it would start up and run normal again.

I'm betting IPR for you.

It does sound like your IPR, but if you ICP has oil under the plug, then it is on it's way out as well. Oil come from the ICP having a hole in it. Here's an old pic of mine that will help you with the locations.

I changed the IPR and brought it to full temp. Still running great. I'll know next week if that was the cause for sure. Thanks for the help and the great diagrams.

Wow, that was fast, two hours from order to completed install. Glad it seems to have done the trick. You can clean the old one and keep it for and emergency back up. I dont have the link with me on the cleaning procedure, but someone will. Thanks for posting back.

I would add get a new o-ring as well since they have a bad habit of leaking when you try and reuse them.
