Exclamation E40D problem this is driving me nuts.

my 94 f 250 seems to shift ok when I have overdrive off for around town..but when I go up on the highway and push the off button into overdrive the truck doesnt shift right but will only do this in overdrive not when its off.since my trucks a 94 someone told me it will be harder to read the codes since its not a 95 and up.I never read codes before and dont know how to or where to hook the code reader up.but im really getting tired of guys at shops lying to me and stringing me along so I want to get one.so I need somehelp with that and also why is my truck (e4od) only slipping when its in overdrive?

Ford Fuel Injection How To Run a Self-Test Here is how to get the codes without a code reader. However you can buy an OBD1 code reader for under $30.00 and plug it into the connectors shown in the link.

Your 94 is just like a 95 and the codes are read the same way.

Here is the under $30.00 reader to get:

Areas where your problem may be:
Wiring harnesses, powertrain control module, Throttle position sensor, vehicle speed sensor,
shift solenoid 1, shift solenoid 2, Shift Linkage (Internal/External) or Cable - Damage, misadjusted.
Manual lever position sensor damaged, misadjusted.

autozone lists one for 29.99 but it does not look like it displays digits whatsoever, so i havent an idea of how theirs works, maybe flashes just the same as if you do it by the CEL self test???

Yea the INNOVA 3145 includes a booklet with full instructions on its use and list of trouble codes.

My vote, like many others here, if you're going to buy a inexpensive code reader buy that one.

No you don't need it, it allows you to sit in the drivers seat while running the tests,

You can do it all easy enough without it.

You do not need the 6 foot cord. Amazon was one of the first internet retailers and is safe. Shipping time will depend on what shipper they use.
