i have a 1996 f 350 7.3 powerstroke automatic with overdrive . when i got in truck today and started up the overdrive light is now blinking and when i drive truck the transmission is shifting very hard, it will jerk you in the seat.but its not slipping and overdrive works when i turn on and off, but the hard shifting concerns me it didn't start this until overdrive light started blinking. any ideas
Have your codes read. You will need a scan tool that supports manufacturer-specific codes, a feature seldom found in el-cheapo scanners.
The computer has detected a fault with the transmission and has put it into "fail-safe" mode. One of the key attributes of this mode is a greatly increased EPC pressure that will really slam the shifts.
If you're lucky, it might just be an easy to replace sensor. Once you have the code, a proper diagnosis can (and should) be made before purchasing any parts for replacement.
