how to tighten up doors

my doors rattle when going over bumps. It sounds like its the whole door and not just internals (although i hear some internal rattles as well). i have rocked the doors when open and pushed and pulled when closed and it doesnt feel like anything is loose. could the problem be with the hinge side? the latch side? whats most likely.

Is there anyway to adjust the door latch or the stud so maybe it will pull it tighter? any other things to try?

many thanks

the door stud in the body should have/be a 'star' allen that can be loosened up and shifted from side to side.

Shawn - I read a thread on here a couple years ago about installing hose inside the weatherstripping to tighten up the doors. Can't remember who posted it but someone will probly know and be along shortly. Could try new weatherstripping too.

It was surgical rubber tubing that folks were slipping inside the weatherstripping to tighten and quiet the doors. Can't recall the size but you could do a search at thedieselstop.com in the 1999-2003 section. I'll be looking for that info again myself soon.

i saw that thread but thought it was mainly for road noise. i havent noticed the road noise to be that bad...the doors just shake over bumps. i think it was 3/8" latex tubing by the way. i may try this mod anyway just to see what it does....seems easy enough.

I will look at the door stud tonight to see about it's adjustability.

My driver door would not shut all the way(it would rattle too), what someone on here suggested was to just slightly hammer in the catch that is attached to the body of the truck. I actually unbolted it and tried prying it over. But the hammering of the catch over just as far as I wanted the door moved was what really helped. Now no more gap and the rattle is gone.
