She just quit running

Driving home the other day my 1990 Bronco just died. No spark from the coil so I changed it. Looked in the old Chilton repair book it mentions a dist. module . Could it need to be changed and do you need a special tool to change it out. If so where would you get such a tool. Or is there something else I need to check before tearing into the dist. The Bronco ran great before this happened , it just died.

Always go for the easy jobs first. Check all the fuses (specially the one that belongs to the fuel pump), then get a Code reader and see what it tells you.

pull codes

does the motor turn over but not fire? after changing the coil did you still not have spark?

your dizzy may have failed or the TFI module which is mounted to the side of the dizzy failed.

Replace Distributor, save yourself alot of troubleshooting, been down that path with my 1990 Bronco. Pictures have been posted.

Tool to replace ICM on Dist is a deep well thin sided socket (5.5 mm). I got one at Ace Hardware, actually I had to buy a set.

There's a stator, deep in the distributor as well as a PIP sensor, I replaced all the parts in the Dist and the ICM too. Then I did the fuel pump.

Diagnose first, replace parts second. Much cheaper this way.

Start with pulling the codes, and then tell us what the truck is doing.

Ditto, ALWAYS diagnose first... replacing parts arbitrarily just wastes time and money.

Did I miss where someone suggested I rebuild the distributor in my case?

Nope didn't miss it, it wasn't there.

Took me 6 days of troubleshooting to figure it out. No help from this site.

Then why bother asking? No one suggested rebuilding the dizzy because it didn't need a complete rebuild. It needed a new PIP sensor but most folks don't or won't take the time or have the patience to properly disassemble the distributor and replace just the sensor which is a ludicrous notion. Spending the money on a whole distributor as opposed to a Profile Ignition Pickup sensor just makes no sense. Your symptoms in the thread referenced above would have been gotten to but there is no point in attempting a response when the methods applied (and posted) are contrary to the diagnostic process for a dead PIP sensor.

I'm not assuming that the OP has the skills to do a complete rebuild. It's a job requiring a vice, punches, hammers, and some level of training and experience. Not for the sidewalk, driveway mechanic.
