Curious on how much boost I should be making under full throttle. Lets say I'm cruising at 70 and need to pass, I will slowly put the foot down without making it downshift and it will be @ 30 psi. If I was going the same speed and put it to the floor right away and making it downshift it will be right around 20psi until it shifts back into 5th then the boost goes back up to 30. I think this is how they all are as my dads does the same. Just curious what causes this? Thanks in advance!
My 05 boost has never gone over 23-25.
I don't cruise that fast though.....even pulling my 10,000 trailer I've never gone over 25.
Now you've got me concerned that something is up with my truck.
tuned or not tuned, if i lug the truck @ 70 it will hit damn near 30 if not 30. but if I put my ole lead foot down it only hits about 20. I do have the EGR blocked off, head studs, piower hungry performance FICM, and an SCT by Innovative Diesel. But as stated earlier, tuned or not tuned its only about 20psi if i have the peddle down to the floor at any speed except for anything above lets say 75 when it shifts into 5th. Also this is going off of the dash gauge.
Think of it this way: Rolling into the throttle is, technically, more of a load than kicking down a gear since the engine has to work harder, but I think you should still hit 30 psi regardless. Call Eric and ask him what he thinks.
I had the same issue. If the TC did not unlock and I just rolled on the gas, I would see 32 psi. About a week later I started getting a severe case of turbo farts. Pulled the turbo and cleaned it and all my issues are now gone. Now I never see anything above 26.

Will you now see 26psi at any given speed when you put it down? I was always thinking of cleaning up the turbo this summer. Probably going to be my next project.
Stock under any condition, 26 to 28 psi max. The boost factory gauge is sort of vague in that area as far as interpretation. Over 28 is definitely pushing H.G.'s with the TTY bolts.

That's what really amazes me. The one gauge that is relatively accurate compared to the others and they have to have such a crappy range of display on it. That is probably the biggest reason why I say get a 60 psi gauge as on most of them(atleast long sweep ones) one tick mark = 1 PSI of boost(in this case).
The purpose of this factory boost gauge that was added in 05 was to alert the driver if an overboost condition occured (ie turbo vains stuck) so the driver would take it in for service and not stretch the head bolts and blow head gaskets. I'm sure accuracy of this gauge wasn't the primary goal here.
My 05 was getting hitting about 30 psi under full load..... and getting 14 mpg at best. I was also experiencing a lot of turbo farts back through the intake. The dealer replaced the Turbo and EGR Valve under warranty and my mileage is up to 16-17. Now boost never gets above 24-25psi and my “butt” dyno says it has more power with less boost.
