Finally got around to getting this information off the truck. Sucks buying something with a high motivation level to work on it and then get stuck working 60-70 hours a week and not getting to play with my new toy! I guess I did get the header leak fixed and new Cherry Bombs installed, next is to fix the massive play in the steering (very soon I hope!)

Just a little sidenote about the steering...they all always had some play in the steering... I would give it a good greasing first off then see how much adjustment you can take up by tightening the adjustment in the steering box...dont tighten it...just get it to where the screw just gets resistance.
Also make sure the rag joint flexible steering column to steering box coupler isnt on its last legs as that will cause wicked scary amounts of play at the wheel. If after greasing the steering linkage its got the same amount of play...look there..also look immediately up the column and see if you have any round ring like things riding around on the steering shaft...if so thats the lower steering column bearing remains...Ive got the same scenario on mine...
The kingpins and tie rods are the only places in the steering linkage that get greased. The pitman arm to drag link joint also has a zerk fitting on it for grease.

Thank you very much. Well its a long way from Springtime Yellow and the 352 is long gone! lol
I am ready to rid myself of the steering problem. It has power steering which I am not sure was original to this truck (also has power brakes) Apparently it has been "restored" at one time over the years. I am hoping this much play is NOT normal because I really would not feel safe driving it and the wife would never be able to handle it. I'll definitely try your suggestions when I get some much needed time off.
Thanks again and you can bet that I will be back for more help. This is going to be a huge learning experience for me.
Many times it seems when people change to power steering they swap the steering column as well...the truck originally had a 3 spoke steering wheel(4 spoke on 1 tons and 4WD). The automatic transmission gear selector indicator dial read P R N Drive in smaller type and L. There was no 'frame' around it to protect it from being broken off like in later years. The master cylinder has a round screw on cap with a smaller diameter brake light switch screwed into the master cylinder right above where the single brake line screws into the master cylinder. The brake light switch has 2 studs with wires pushed onto them, these are red wires with black 90 degree end connecters on the ends.
The power brake booster is about 10" in diameter and 6" thick with black paint.
Thank you. Maybe I'll see if I can get some pictures of some of these items tomorrow. The power steering unit is a FoMoCo. From the description of the p/b given, I'd say these were added also. They have upgraded to disc brakes up front also. This could be fun figuring out what all these items came from. lol
It has a 302 out of a Mustang (I think) probably mid 80s model, C6 trans and I think a Ford 9 in the rear. Sounds like nothing is original! lol

P/D brakes and P/S were prolly swapped at the same time from a 1973/79 F100, 1975/79 F150.
These parts bolt right on to 1965/72 F100's. 1973 was the first year for disc brakes in F100's.
If the power steering pump has a plastic reservoir and dipstick: 1978/79.
Looks like a ton of play in the steering gear(box)? Has a FoMoCo p/n I guess.
Its a C6AR3580-2, I think. Hate trying to do things in a hurry. lol This work thing really gets in the way of life.
